Hi everyone

On the 12th June, a number of photographers are displaying their photographs at an exhibition for Centrepoint, which is a charity for helping the homeless in London.

We have come together, led by Andrew Baird and Rebecca O’Connor and have submitted our photographs, which has been whittled down to 24 images, they are going to be displayed on Wednesday 12th June 2013 to 12th July at 29a Corsham St, London N1 6DR. Launch night is the 12th June at 18:00 until 21:00.

The aim is to raise money by selling our photographs which show different aspects of London in either A3 or A4

This is what we as a group have to say:

We are a diverse group of emerging photographers who came together through our shared love of photography and a desire to help improve the lives of London’s young homeless people.

Cafe Commune in Shoreditch is the perfect location for our first exhibition: Pockets of London. Following the philosophy of restauranteur Roy, the cafe-gallery provides a meeting point for people from all walks of life and a chance to connect over tea and cake.

Please enjoy the images we feel represent pockets of our beautiful city and dig deep for Centrepoint, the charity helping to prevent youth homelessness.

So, you all thought Caught-on-Canvas was hibernating; far from it.

In the past few months we have been very busy doing what we do, working on bespoke works for clients, two of which were pieces for a young lad’s bedroom, commissioned by his parents, of course; whilst back in February, we attended The Asian Wedding show at The Grand Connaught Rooms, where the greatest interest shown was for the ‘Table Planner’ (that’s the ‘seating arrangements’ for you single people) which was created for a happy couple last year (see our earlier blog: John Lennon once said “All you need is love”). One couple, who are getting married this year and were very keen on it are hoping to start their ‘table planner’ with us in June as soon as they collect all the names and images needed, and a hotel chain that regularly have weddings has also expressed a keen interest.

Our photographers have also been out taking more photos, which we hope people will like in their homes, and, as with everything we do, it is about quality not quantity, which is why we are limiting each image to 30 canvases only. This does two things:
1.    It means that we create exclusive images for you; and
2.    It means that we have to keep striving to come up with more creative images
(These images are not mass produced and each canvas is checked individually, with a choice of having the image printed to the edge of the canvas or slightly reduced, with a key line around the image and with a limitless choice of colours for the canvas background to match or compliment your home.)

You can have the image inside the edge to help frame the image

Our canvases come in two sizes for these images
16″ x 20″ @ £85
20″ x 30″ @ £95

Here are four images that we are confident would grace anybody’s home and so would make a great present for someone special, you included.

So, while you work on your excuse, or is that justification, for being that special someone (of course you are), don’t forget to check out our current gallery of exquisiteness at www.caught-on-canvas.net/gallery or just stay in contact via our website caught-on-canvas.net

Urban Landscapes – Homework week 7

Week 7 of my photography course and I am loving getting my camera out and planning a days photography, although I didn’t enjoy the weather last Saturday when I was out taking my photographs, as it was bitter, despite being all wrapped up in a fleecy, gloves and a scarf like a good little boy. […]

Topology – Homework Week 4

Topology (from the Greek τόπος, “place”, and λόγος, “study”)

I am currently attending an 11-week photography course, as I have always harboured delusions of grandeur and wanted to be a photographer. So, as a result, I constantly seek courses to attend and the course of the moment is Morley college by Lambeth North.

Like all students, we receive homework, which means I have to push myself to get out with my camera and not get distracted with work and other such things which can be important but ultimately boring.

But enough of that rambling, photographic topology refers to a set of photographs that belong together. Any set of photographs, so the possibilities are endless.

I decided to set up a photographic shoot at home with some statues that I own (and covet), with access to limited lighting, and taking around 40 minutes setting up the lighting to ensure that the shadows were right (I didn’t want a shadow on the back wall), I starting taking my shots.

So after about an hour…and lots of trial and errors…I finally arrived at my 3 favourite ones. While I realise they are not for everyone, I like them, both photographically and subject matter. I liked the Superman so much I have changed my FB profile to this one.

Hope you like them too.

A massive 20% OFF to celebrate our first birthday

Celebrating our first year in business

Celebrating our first year in business

Woo-Hoo… Caught-on-Canvas is now one year old, (and they said it would never last) and, surprisingly, going well and getting stronger, according to plan.

Our aim for the first year was always to meet lots of couples who were, and hopefully still are, intending on getting married in the next year or so, and hopefully impress them with our amazing canvasses, and to give them an alternative and more enduring (and endearing) way to display their cherished memories.

After that our second aim was to get the photography gallery up and running, which we did a few months ago and (a second Woo-Hoo) it has had it’s first sale. (A family from The Wirral has bought a canvas with photography by our new photographer, Nick Thompson, for their dad who was born down here in the smoke. After they read our last blog, they felt The Houses of Parliament image was a perfect gift for him for Christmas).

Houses-of-Parliament

So, to celebrate our first year  we have decided to offer a 20% discount on any canvas ordered before the 31.12.12; even if your wedding isn’t for a while, a 10% deposit will secure the discount until you are ready to place your order.

I’m now off to stuff my face with some pre-Christmas goodies (What do you mean, “No surprise there then”?), but from everyone at Caught-on-Canvas, we would like to wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year and we look forward to hearing from you in near future.

Announcing our second photographer

Today, we are introducing our next we would like to introduce our latest photographer, Nick Thompson for our gallery section of our website.

I have known Nick for more years than I care to mention, and he has been a great supporter of Caught-on-Canvas since its launch last December.

When I mentioned the gallery section and what my plans were for the gallery section, he was really interested in joining in and getting his images out to a wider audience. Like myself, he has always steered away from the mass produced market of art for his home, and has always bought original or limited edition pieces of work.

So, without further waffling from me, here is a small paragraph from Nick himself:

Hi, I’m a London based amateur photographer using both digital and film, and shooting in both colour and black and white, and I’ve been photographing London for the past five years.

I shoot mainly street photography in and around London, taking in the people and the scenery including the Underground. I have known Mario for too many years to reveal, but don’t hold that against me. I hope you like my images.

Nick

Well that was short and sweet, and for those of you who know Nick, you know that is not normally the case.

So if you want to see his photography just click on the link caught-on-canvas.net/index.php/gallery and see what the fuss is about, as with all the images in our gallery these can be bought, printed on canvas, we think they will make great Christmas presents for your loved ones.

Another testimonial

Caught-on-Canvas created a bespoke to celebrate a clients 50th birthday

“I sent Mario a mixture of photos, some original prints and was really impressed by the creative and imaginative way he set the photos out to create a lasting piece of personal artwork.

He consulted the whole way through the process to make sure I was completely happy with the result.

The canvas was a great present to commemorate a milestone birthday!

Highly recommended”
